Embroidery kit in cross stitch - Sajou blue Bangalore indienne fabric cushion - Museum and Heritage Collection
The word indiennes describes fabrics with exotic floral patterns which, in the 17th century, came from India through the different trading companies. Printed on fine cottons, then unknown in Europe, their shimmering patterns met with a dazzling success, to the point of harming French textile manufacturers. From there, what was called the “Indienne War” began, which you can read in our blog. Widely manufactured in Europe since the 18th century, these fabrics have retained the name indienne fabrics until today. We have given our motifs the names of Indian cities which all, directly or indirectly, have a connection with the history of textiles.
This Sajou blue Bangalore cushion is taken from our spectacular pattern dedicated to indienne fabrics.
